Of abundant naturally regenerated seedlings of an exotic clone (Populus deltoids 69.55 ), 254 seedlings selected and replanted as clones. Following year, of these seedlings, 10 were selected and planted as cuttings in nursery Factors investigated include, vertical growth, vitality percentage and resistance to pests and diseases. Results obtained as the followings ̎
1.Seedlings with one year root and stem
A. Six clones with average height over 3 meter, have been selected. These include 63.9; 63.6; 63.3; 63.2; 63.1; 63.5.
B. Vitality percentage: Six clones with vitality percentage over 88% have been selected which include 63.9; 63.10; 63.8; 63.7; 63.6; 63.5.
C. Resistance to pests and diseases: There were four clones which showed the highest resistance to pests and diseases which include 63.10; 63.6; 63.5; 63.4.
2.Seedlings with two year root and one year stem.
A. Height, except for the clone 63.6 with average of 4.67 m, there were no significant differences between others and seedlings having one year root and stem.
B. Resistance to pests and diseases: Two year seedlings showed the highest resistance to pests and discascs. During outbracking years it is recommended to plant seedlings with two years root and one year stem, otherwise seedlings with one year root and stem can be used appropriately.
