Preparation of manuscripts

Manuscripts must be as original research papers (original article) and contain high-quality results with novelty in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants. Normally these will be based on analytical results and experiments. 

To expedite the process of submitting, receiving, reviewing and publishing articles, the electronic system of Iranian Journal of Forest and Poplar Research has been launched at the following address:

Manuscripts should be presented in the following order: Persian title page; abstract and key words; introduction; results; discussion; acknowledgements (optional); references in English; English title, abstract and keywords.

The title page (in separate file) should include: the name(s) of the author(s); academic rank (assistant professor, associate professor, professor, etc.); the affiliation (s) and address (es) of the author(s) and the E-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author. All data in title page should be presented in both Persian and English.

It is necessary to follow this guideline for preparation of articles and the manuscript that do not follow it will be returned.

The journal is allowed to accept, reject and edit the articles, and the corresponding author must cooperate to improve the article until publication.

Original article file

Text Formatting: Manuscripts should be submitted in Word software with a margin of 2 cm from the top and bottom and 2 cm from the left and right.

The main headings including abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and acknowledgement should be typed in B Nazanin 14. Subtitles should be typed in B Badr 13 Bold.

- Type and size of Persian font: The text of the article: B Badr 13 and English font: Times New Roman 11.

The details of the different sections of the article are as follows:

- Article Title (Center, B Zar 13 bold (Persian) and Times New Roman 11 bold (English)). The title of the article should be concise, clear and expressive of the content of the article. The maximum number of words in the title is 12 words.

- Abstract (B Badr 11 (Persian) and Times New Roman 9 (English)

- A concise extended abstract (at least 500 and at most 700 words) of the article, including a description of the problem, the procedure and the results obtained, should be written. Avoid using summary letters and presenting the source, table and figure in the abstract. In well-known cases, after giving the full name and abbreviation in parentheses, the abbreviation can be used in the rest of the abstract. The left and right margins of the abstract should have an indentation of one centimeter.

Important note: According to the journal policy for international indexing, and the decision of the editorial board, from July 2023, every "article that is submitted to the journal" and "every article that is published after summer 2023" must have an extended abstract in Persian and English (at least 500 to 700 words). The extended abstract should be arranged as follows.

- Keywords (B Badr 11 (Persian) and Times New Roman 9 (English))

- Type with a space line from the abstract and observing the same indentations. The number of keywords should be between 4 to 7 words and the words of the article title should not be used as much as possible.

Introduction: It consists of a description of the subject matter including the importance, hypothesis, an adequate background, using the new references, purpose and background of the research.

Material and methods: It includes the characteristics of the study area, research method and data analysis method. Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced.

Results: In this section, all quantitative and qualitative findings, including tables and figures, are presented. Strictly avoid discussing and comparing with the findings of other researches in this section..

Discussion: It includes analysis and interpretation of findings and comparison with the results of other research. If necessary, reviews and suggestions can be provided without mentioning the subtitle in this section

Acknowledgments: In terms of politeness and respect, thank all the persons and organizations that support the research. This section is optional.

 Tables

- There should be a blank line before and after the tables.

- Drawing a table should be done only through the Table menu.

- The table should have a clear title and its information should not be repeated otherwise in the article.

- Type the title of the table at the top (B Badr 12 Bold (Persian) and Times New Roman 10 Bold (English)).

- The numbers in the table should be in English.

- The type and size: The numbers and words in the table should be Times New Roman 9. In large tables, the font size can be selected smaller.

- Tables that are wide should be presented as Landscape.

- Font type and size of subtitles of tables should be Times New Roman 7.

- To draw a table in any size and definite, do the following: Size: 100% Alignment: Center Text wrapping: None

- It is necessary to mention the unit and scale for the table.

- Mentioning the reference is necessary for tables independent of the text of the article.

- Do not mention the word "number" in the table title. Example: Table 1 is correct and Table number 1 is incorrect

- In setting the table, it is necessary for the inner lines to be hidden and only the overhead lines and the end line separating the last line should be visible.

- The table should be placed in the appropriate place inside the text (after providing its description) and it should not be sent as an image

Figures

- All images, diagrams and graphs should be named as figure.

- The front and back of the shapes should be a blank line.

- Horizontal and vertical axis numbers of all diagrams should be typed in English with Times New Roman 10.

- The figures should have a clear title and its information should not be repeated otherwise in the article.

- Type the title of the figure at the bottom with the type and size of the Persian font (B Badr 12 bold) and the English font (Times New Roman 10 bold).

- The multi-part figures and the symbols contained in them should be prepared in a continuous group so that they do not separate in changing the margins and specifications of the file.

- The caption of the figure should not be in the Text box.

- Avoid placing the figures inside the table.

- In line with text format should be placed in its place and do not use Enter to open the desired space.

- It is necessary to mention the unit and scale for the figure.

- Mentioning the reference is necessary for forms independent of the article text.

- Do not mention the word "number" in the title of the figure.

- The figure should be placed in the appropriate place inside the text (after providing its description).

References

All references in the main text and reference list should be presented in English. The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work.

In the text

- Cite references that have at least an English abstract, in other words, avoid non-scientific and research sources such as job reports, interviews, etc.

- Try to cite the references at the end of the sentence.

- Write the references in parentheses and in the text only by mentioning the author's last name and the year of publication of the reference and only in English and using the Gregorian year.

- In references with more than two authors, the name of the first author should be mentioned and the phrase "and colleagues" or the abbreviated word "et al." should be written in parentheses and italics.

Example:

At the end of the sentence:

- One author (Lowman, 2008)

- Two authors (Waring & Running, 2020)

- More than two authors (Nielsen et al., 2019)

At the beginning or middle of the sentence:

- One author: Lowman (2008)

- Two authors: Waring and Running (2020)

- More than two authors: Nielsen et al. (2019)

 References list

- In writing different references in the References section, do the following:

1- Article

Surname of the first author, first letter of the first name of the first author., Surname of the second author, first letter of the first name of the second author., ...., year of publication. Title. Full name of the magazine, cover number (serial number): number of the first and last pages.

Example:

- Aguire, O., Hui, G., Gadow, K.V. and Jimenez, J., 2003. An analysis of forest structure using neighborhood based variables. Forest Ecology and Management, 183(3): 137-145.

2- Book

First name of the first author, first letter of the first name of the first author, last name of the second author, first letter of the first name of the second author., ...., year of publication. Full title of the book (the first letter of each word in the title should be typed in capital letters). Publisher, place of publication, full number of pages

Example:

- Sagheb Talebi, Kh., Sajedi, T. and Pourhashemi, M., 2014. Forests of Iran: A Treasure from the Past, A Hope for the Future. Springer, 152p.

- In cases where the reference used is a translated book, it is necessary to mention the word (translation) after the title of the book.

Example:

- Mesdaghi, M., 2001. Characterization and Description of Vegetation Cover (translation). Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, 287p (In Persian).

3- A book or collection of articles in which each chapter or article has been written by one or more authors: Provide the name of the author (s) of the chapter or article in accordance with paragraph 2 (book), year (Chapter or article title, first and last pages). In (In): surname, the first letter of the name of the original author of the book, (Eds. or Ed.). Book title (the first letter of each word in this title should be typed in capital letters). Publisher, place of publication, full number of pages.

Example:

- Bradshaw, R.H.W., 2005. What is a natural forest: 15-30. In: Stanturf, J.A. and Madsen, P., (Eds.). Restoration of Boreal and Temperate Forests. CRC Press, London, 569p.

4- Article presented to the seminar and conference: First name of the first author, first letter of the first name of the first author, last name of the second author, first letter of the first name of the second author., ...., year of publication (Article title, title of collection or abstract of articles, place, date, and number of pages).

Example:

- Ichihara, Y., Masuya, H. and Kubono, T., 2008. Pathogenicity of two fungi isolated from the decayed seeds of Fagus crenata in Japan. Abstracts of the 8th IUFRO International Beech Symposium. Japan, 8-13 September: 165-168.

5- Student thesis or dissertation: Although student dissertations are not considered reliable sources of information and it is not recommended to refer to them, but if it is necessary and key to such a type of resources, they can be referred to as follows: Surname, the first letter of the student's name, title, degree and field of study, name of the faculty or department, name of the university, city of the university, number of pages.

Example:

- Pourhashemi, M., 2003. Natural regeneration of oak species in Marivan forests (Case study: Doveyse). Ph.D. thesis, Faculty of Natural Resources, University of Tehran, Karaj, 166p (In Persian).

Data file

It is necessary to send the file of all diagrams and graphs in the manuscript in Excel software.

Review article

It is an article written based on published articles and is not the result of field or laboratory research. In other words, a review article examines and analyzes the literature in order to investigate and explain the current situation about a topic or problem. In the review article, the criticism and analysis of the researches that have been done are discussed and usually some suggestions are also presented. Due to the nature of review articles, there is no limit on the number of pages and the number of sources used for this type of articles.

Short article/Essay

It includes ideas and viewpoints that are written about a specific topic. Normally, the topic of the Short article should not be general, but should be specific and detailed and focused on a real problem or issue. A short article is compiled in five main sections, including Abstract, Introduction, Supporting paragraph, Summary paragraph, and References, and the number of pages is between 3 and 6 pages (in In some cases, with the approval of the editor, increasing the number of pages is allowed). Normally, in terms of content, the preparation and writing of the three parts of introduction, body and conclusion include the following:

a) Introduction

Main idea or point of view

The importance of the subject

Definitions, hypotheses and perspectives

b) Body

Expand ideas and perspectives by providing examples and quotations

Expressing the causes and reasons

Providing information, data, evidence and rational and theoretical reasons in defense of the idea

c) Summary

A summary of the introduction and the body

Recommendations, suggestions and solutions
